This baking cocoa is made with cacao grown by the farmers of Conacado and Fundopo co-ops in the Dominican Republic. When farmers organize into co-ops they gain crucial market access, run their business democratically, and decide together how to invest in their communities. Since 2002, we've partnered with Conacado and are proud to be buying directly from their farmer-owned manufacturing facility. In collaboration with out USAID Cooperative Development Program, they've been able to develop quality control and food safety procedures that have allowed them to achieve prestigious certification for their processing plant.
