When farmers organize into co-ops they gain crucial market access, run their business democratically, and decide together how to invest in their communities. Founded in 1970 in the Apurimac River Valley of Peru, our cacao farming partner El Quinacho is a co-operative of about 220 members. In a region scarred by a history of social and political conflict, this resilient co-operative has focused on providing viable alternatives for its members and their community.
