He had been an accomplished engineer and electrician who transitioned into the coffee business in 1988 with Coffee Bean International out of Portland, Oregon. Tragically, however, in 2007, he lost his wife to cancer. Now needing the flexibility to raise two young children by himself, Joe’s entrepreneurial spirit kicked in, and he began repairing coffee roasting and brewing equipment. Then he also started teaching workshops on how to roast and blend coffee. In 2008, one of Joe’s customers, an owner of a coffee store chain, asked if Joe would be interested in formulating and producing coffee syrups for his stores. Joe and his 10-year-old son, Joel, got to work in the kitchen! They knew right away they wanted it to be all natural, with no artificial sweeteners, dyes, or preservatives. It only took a few months, and they had a thriving family business selling a line of premium natural coffee syrups. With increased sales, Joe was able to use his old skills as an engineer and electrician to build his own processing plant from scratch. By 2013, the plant was up and running and producing twelve all-natural flavors. With increasing customer growth, it was time to complete the process to become Certified Organic. Fast forward to today, Joe has 25 sugar-based and four sugar-free flavors. In 2017, Joe remarried and he and his new wife Michelle ensure that Joe’s remains a small family business that views its employees as one of the family.
